6. Providing Artwork:

Providing high-quality artwork is crucial for ensuring that your custom notebooks look exactly as required. This section outlines the requirements for submitting artwork, including guidelines for outside and inside artwork, and offers details on our artwork support services.

6.1 Outside Artwork

When preparing logos or designs for debossing, foiling, or other external customizations, please provide vector files. These files ensure that your artwork maintains its quality regardless of resizing. Accepted formats for outside artwork include:

  • Vector Formats: AI, EPS, SVG, or PDF with vector content.
  • Logos for Debossing/Foiling: Ensure the designs are in black and white to indicate which areas should be pressed or foiled.

6.2 Inside Artwork

For inside artwork, follow these guidelines to ensure your designs are print-ready and correctly formatted:

Possible File Formats:

  • PDF

Artwork Setup:

  • Send artwork in chronological order, starting with the first page (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.).
  • You can have 1, 2, 4, 8, or 12 tipped-in pages, available at the front or rear of our notebooks.

Artwork Format/Bleed:

  • Include a 5mm bleed on all sides of your print artwork.
  • Ensure the TrimBox (finished format frame) is identified in the PDF file and is positioned centrally.
  • Keep all essential objects or text within the safety area indicated in the data sheet.
  • Do not include folding or cutting marks within the artwork format.

Resolution:

  • Provide all items at 300 dpi to ensure print quality.

Color Mode:

  • Submit all artwork in CMYK or greyscale, 8 Bit/Channel. All color print artwork must be supplied as a print-ready PDF converted to CMYK colors. If your files are not supplied in CMYK, a one-off charge of £45 / $50 may be applied for conversion where possible. Alternatively, you can resubmit the artwork free of charge.

Special Colors:

  • Do not use spot and special colors for full-color products, as this can lead to misinterpretations in coloring.
  • Ensure a minimum color saturation of 10% to avoid very light prints, noting that 10% yellow appears lighter than 10% cyan.

Note on Color Conversion:

  • Conversion to CMYK will not always produce the same results as files made with spot colors or RGB. Bookblock cannot be held responsible for color discrepancies due to incorrect artwork submissions or subsequent conversions, nor is it our responsibility to check the file settings in submitted artwork.
